A high standard of accommodation with en-suite facilities

We pride ourselves on the quality of our accommodation and furnishings, which help to make The Vicarage a true home from home.

Most bedrooms have en-suite facilities. They are all individually decorated and furnished, and each has its own BT phone line, intercom and TV point.

Several tastefully furnished lounges provide residents with space for communal activities or to receive visitors. Our conservatory provides a sunny outlook where residents can sit and read or just watch the garden wildlife.

The building is equipped with a passenger lift; wheelchair access throughout, and level entrances for easy access to the grounds.

Care and support

Everyone has a fundamental right to retain their personal dignity and independence, irrespective of the severity of their physical or mental infirmity. At The Vicarage, each resident's social, emotional, religious, cultural and political needs are fully accepted and respected.

Each resident has a plan of care tailored to their own physical, social and psychological needs. The plan is regularly reviewed, with input from the resident, relatives and appropriate care professionals.

We are working towards being a provider of Person-Centred Care, which will enable us to provide specialist, researched care, emphasizing the individual as a whole person and not just as a dementia sufferer.

We seek to provide an environment which enables the individual to maintain independence and exercise freedom of choice whilst maximising privacy and dignity, and encouraging a fulfilling life.

Our open visiting policy means that friends, relatives and other visitors are welcome to visit at any time. Residents are free to receive visitors in one of the lounges or in their own room at any time.

We welcome comments from anyone visiting the Home, as this helps us to evaluate our service and monitor our care practice. Please speak to the Manager or any member of senior staff; or if you prefer, please put your comment in writing.

Fully trained and caring staff

As a care home providing nursing care, we have two Registered Nurses on call 24 hour a day. We have a mix of skills and qualifications which enhances the expertise of our team. Qualifications include:

  • RMN - Registered Mental Nurse

  • RNMH - Registered Nurse for mental Handicap

  • RGN - Registered General Nurse

All our nurses have post-registration qualifications including: Teaching; Care of the Elderly; Taking Blood; Managing Challenging Behaviour, and many others.

Our Senior Carers have, or are working towards, NVQ level III in Care, and the majority of our remaining Carers have, or are working towards, level II. In conjunction with our training programme, our care staff attend a variety of courses, and all new Carers undergo an induction process approved by the Commission for Social Care Inspection.

Wherever practicable, it is our aim to have eight Carers on duty throughout the day and five during the night. Additional staff supervise the lounge areas and assist during meal times.

In addition to full-time Nursing and Care staff, our ancillary staff - two qualified and experienced cooks, kitchen assistants and maintenance person - supply all of the support services needed to provide our residents with a safe and homely environment.

Comprehensive healthcare arrangements

Residents may, of course, continue to use the services of their own doctor (if still in the same NHS area), or they may choose to join the list of local doctors that serve Vicarage Care Home. Community nurses offer attention whenever required, and our own qualified staff are able to dispense medication under the supervision of the local pharmacist.

Other specialists visit the home where necessary to provide chiropody services, physiotherapy, dental and optical treatment.
