Our admission criteria are intended to ensure that we can adequately meet the needs of the individual. Prior to admission we will complete a pre-admission assessment of each prospective resident. This is over and above any assessment carried out by any other care professional. We are able to provide care for people over 65 years of age that have problems with the following:

Dementing illnesses
Enduring mental health problems, e.g. schizophrenia, chronic depression etc.
Mental health problems through trauma - whether recent or long standing
Some challenging behaviours
Most physical ailments associated with old age
Terminal stages of all of the above

In all cases we reserve the right to refuse admission if we feel we could not adequately meet the needs of the person, or if their admission would adversely affect those already in residence. We do not accept:

People who have only physical problems
People with Learning Disabilities
People who do not require nursing care

Respite Care & Emergency Admission

Although we do not have dedicated respite beds, if we have a vacancy we will take someone for short-term respite care. Charges will be calculated on a daily basis, based on care needs, and an appropriate contract will be issued.

In an emergency, if we have a bed available, we will take an admission without our full pre-admission assessment being done. The Nurse in Charge will expect brief but precise details of the person's needs, and will decide if we can meet them pro temp. This admission will be for no longer than 60 hours initially, after which the referring agent is responsible for reassessment. If, once admitted, we find that we are not able to meet this person's needs, we retain the right to discharge at any point during this period,  having informed the referring agent of our intention to do so.

Fees & Funding

We accept residents whose care is funded by Social Services as well as those who fund their own care. However, Social Services funding does not cover the full cost of the care we provide and we do expect a "top up" to make up the difference. All residents are assessed by the local Primary Care Trust for the appropriate level of government contribution towards the cost of their nursing care. This is deducted from the amount payable per week.

Our fee levels are based on the care needs of each individual and not on the accommodation provided. At present the fees are: £625-£750 per week, based on the assessed need of each individual. This is payable on the first of every month, in advance. Fees can be paid by cheque or standing order.

Fees cover all nursing and personal care, food, accommodation, light, heat, continence products, laundry and prescribed medication and therapies. They do not cover clothing, toiletries, magazines and newspapers, hairdressing, chiropody, spectacles, dentures and some social events etc. The fees will be reviewed at the beginning of each financial year (April).
